But even then, there was the hint of a future star. Back in Jurong Secondary, he mustered enough courage to sing rapper Puff Daddy's ballad I'll Be Missing You at a Teachers' Day concert. 'Girls tried to ask me out after that but I said that I needed to focus on my studies,' he says with an almost regretful laugh. Idol fans now know him as the funky B-boy who is dressed to kill, either in smart hip-hop gear or a nice suit. Indeed, there is something disarmingly charming about the national serviceman, who repeatedly uses the word 'surreal' to describe how his life has become. Reporter: Narvia Juicy ratings: Singapore Idol Taufik Batisah paid a special visit to Chao Yang School on 26 May, much to the delight of the students and teachers there. That evening, Taufik made his way to Chao Yang School right after his National Service duty. There, he was warmly received by the students, complete with a welcome party at the school gate! Taufik sang with the students in a sing-along segment and even invited some of them to dance along with him. He also led the students in a drawing session where together with eight other volunteers - winners of the 'Portraits of Caring Moments' Photography Contest - he assisted the students in their works of art. A truly unforgettable time for all present, the evening ended on a high when parents who arrived to pick up their children snagged pictures with the Idol as well. It was an exceptionally enriching and entertaining volunteering experience for the photo contest winners. Taufik's visit to Chao Yang School was specially organised by Community Chest as part of the activities for the Youth Day Appeal this year.
